True North: Realigning Yourself (May 16, 2023)

Now that you’re on the path you’ve chosen, we’re done, right? Um, no, not exactly. If you’ve read all of the posts in this True North series, you know we’ve talked about how curlicue paths can be, sometimes merging with others we may have rejected, or circling back around on themselves. Paths, in short, are fickle things.

This is where knowing what you want and how you want to feel comes in handy. It might sound weird, but it can help if you write yourself a personal mission statement and post it where you can see it daily. This can keep you focused on what you want and what you don’t want, so that when questions arise about what you’re doing, you can go back to your personal mission statement and see if it aligns with what you want for yourself.

Let’s go ahead and create a mission statement for ourselves. Please answer the following questions, and expand on them throughout the next week until you have a mission statement that rings true for where you are right now.

Remember, we can change this any time we want to, so do your best for where you are right now in this moment.

  1. What word or phrase would you use to describe yourself at your best? (kind; dedicated; loyal; stalwart)

  2. What word or phrase describes what you want to do in your life? (take it by storm; work in the background; create; help

  3. How do you want to move through life? (purposefully; with flow; kindly; like my hair’s on fire)

  4. What word or phrase describes how you feel when you’re at your best? (joyful; hopeful; passionate; eager)

Let’s put it all together:

When I’m at my best, I’m __#1__, and I can __#2__. I know I’m on the right path for me because when I am, I move through life __#3__ and that makes me feel __#4_.

Warmest,

Heather
